Summary

There are two categories of Sheriffs: Sheriff for the Magistrate's Court (including the Small Claims Court) and Sheriff for the Supreme Court, with most offices being appointed, for both categories, by the Minister of Justice. Such a Sheriff is authorized and appointed to serve and execute all documents issued out by the court he is appointed for, against payment of the prescribed fees.
Services rendered by the Sheriff can be summarized under the following headings:

Service of Summons Commencing Action, including divorce summonses.
Service of Notices of Motion and Affidavits.
Service and execution of all Warrants, including Warrant of Execution, Warrant of Delivery, Warrant of Arrest and Warrant of Ejectment.
Service and execution of all Court Orders and Interdicts, including Family Violence Interdicts.
Attaching and removing movable assets.
Attaching immovable property.

Our various services are rendered to attorneys and the public alike and should you make use of our services for the first time, our staff will guide you through every step.
